Television Review

Friday Night Lights is five seasons full of good old hometown football. The show is based out of Dillon, Texas that sets the scene for the small-town southern atmosphere. This is your typical feel-good show that you could sit down and watch for hours or while doing chores around the house. Friday Night Lights released a total of five seasons with the first one airing on October 8, 2004, and the fifth season on October 2010. Friday Night Lights was under threat of being canceled after the second season until producers realized the effort and support they were receiving and decided to continue filming the show. Friday Night Lights started off streaming on NBC but as times have progressed, you can now watch it on services such as Hulu, Peacock, Live and On-Demand TV, Prime Video, Netflix, Sling, Google Play, and Vudoo.
As you roll through the seasons you will see loving families along with divorce in families, teams dominating and winning championships, students being divided into two different school districts, new job opportunities, teenage love, high school drama, and the struggles of parenting. Friday Night Lights does a great job of encompassing a small town that is very supportive of each other. Toward the end of the show, you will see all of the teenagers that were once young and immature high school students turn into more mature freshmen in college.

Even though Friday Night Lights only lasted five seasons, they did not go unrecognized and have awards to prove it. In 2006, 2007, and 2009 Friday Night Lights won AFI TV Program of the Year. 2007 was also the year that they won the Eddie Award for Edited One-Hour Series for Commercial Televison for their pilot scene. Adding on to 2007 they picked up the award for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Broadcast Excellence, and Outstanding New Program of the Year. In 2010 the show won Best Actress in a Series, Drama. In 2011 Friday Night Lights won Outstanding Lead Actor for a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Program of the Year, TV Actress of the Year, and The Star of Texas Award. In both 2009 and 2011, they won the 60 Minute Category. Not to mention these are just a list of awards they won not including what all it was nominated for.

This is one of those shows that you can turn on the TV and watch over and over again and never get tired of it. Personally, I turn this show on when I am doing homework or doing chores around my apartment. One thing I really like about this show is it is not time-consuming and what I mean by that is you do not have to take time out of your day to make sure you are paying attention to every detail of each episode to understand what is going on. Sadly Friday Night Lights ended because of low ratings and critical opinions but overall I highly recommend this show.
