Music
I like to consider myself a country music connoisseur. Sadly, they don't make country music like they use to or so I thought. Flatland Cavalry has changed the game and tuned up the competition for the standards of country music. This band was started in Lubbock, Texas in 2014 and has made its rounds a time or two in the Lone Star State but as their popularity grows, they have started to make their way around the country. Their band is made up of chief lyricist, Cleto Cordero, guitarist Reid Dillion, drummer Jason Albers, bassist Jonathan Saenz, and you know what they say, if you are going to play in texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band and that would be Mr. Wesley Hall. Lastly, they have added newcomer, Adam Gallegos, a utility instrumentalist that is adding to the creativity of the unique sound that the band produces.
Flatland released their first EP album "Come May" in 2015 containing five songs that were crowdfunded in just eight days. They dropped their next album in 2016 called "Humble Folks" filled with eleven new songs. Next, they released "Homeland Insecurity" in 2019 with eleven new songs. In 2021, Flatland came in hot with their album "Welcome to Countryland" loaded with fourteen more songs. The band was busy in 2022 with the release of "Far Out West Sessions" which contains seven of their songs as acoustic versions. Flatland also released an EP in 2022 called "Songs to Keep You Warm" and they weren't lying. Flatland has a way with words in their lyrics. Their soft and soothingness make you feel warm inside.
Lead singer Cleto Cordero is married to Kaitlin Butts who has made music in her own right but will often make appearances in some of Flatland Cavalry's songs. She has also popped up on stage here and there at some of their live concerts.
Flatland is a whole different experience in person. There are singers out there that sound nothing like they do on the radio in person and then there is Flatland Cavalry that sounds identical to their music on the radio. You can't help but dance and sing to their upbeat and catchy lyrics. I have a friend that likes to say "Flatland rips her chest open and signs right to her heart" with their relatable lyrics.
Best of Flatland Cavalry
1. Sleeping Alone
2. No Shade of Green
3. Damaged Goods
4. Parallel
5. A Life Where We Work Out
6. Missing You
7. Mountain Song
My favorites are in no specific order because I don't know that I could pick a favorite if I tried. Flatland started their fan base by performing live in Lubbock, TX and their fame is continuing to skyrocket. Flatland Cavalry has a way of connecting with its fans through the words that they sing. The band itself wants to pour all of its love into the fans just like the fans did for them when they were just getting started. They create wholesome music that makes everyone want to sing along. I realize country music isn't everyone's taste but they are definitely worth checking out. This is a band that I will more than likely continue to go watch live for as long as they perform. Flatland Cavalry is good for the soul.
